چکیده

Methylmercury (MeHg) exposure during pregnancy is a concern because of its potential health risks to the fetus. Wheat bran (bran), which outer layer wheat kernel, used as functional substance in food for specified uses Japan. In present study, we examined effect on accumulation and excretion Hg mice evaluate use reducing risk MeHg. Female BALB/cByJ were administered MeHg chloride (4 mg Hg/kg, p.o.). Immediately after administration, fed basal diet supplemented with 0%, 5%, or 15% bran, urine feces collected 14 days. The groups had lower total levels all tissues including brain compared control group, but effects significant only blood diet. Urinary was markedly higher than although there no difference between groups. Moreover, fecal substantially group dose-dependent. These results suggest that intake may enhance both decrease tissue levels. conclusion, dietary might be useful burden humans ingested food.

Isothiocyanates Reduce Mercury Accumulation via an Nrf2-Dependent Mechanism during Exposure of Mice to Methylmercury

BACKGROUND Methylmercury (MeHg) exhibits neurotoxicity through accumulation in the brain. The transcription factor Nrf2 (nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2) plays an important role in reducing the cellular accumulation of MeHg. OBJECTIVES We investigated the protective effect of isothiocyanates, which are known to activate Nrf2, on the accumulation of mercury after exposure to MeHg i...

L-arginine reduces mercury accumulation in thymus of mercury-exposed mice: role of nitric oxide synthase activity and metallothioneins.

Mercury, an occupational and environmental contaminant, is a well-recognized health hazard. The thymus is a target for inorganic mercury (Hg2+); thymic function is impaired in Hg2+ intoxication and is partially restored by simultaneous L-arginine supplementation. The nitric oxide (NO)-nitric oxide synthase (NOS) pathway and metallothioneins (MTs) were studied to investigate the role of L-argini...

Systemic administration of Follistatin288 increases muscle mass and reduces fat accumulation in mice

The present study describes the physiological response associated with daily subcutaneous injection of mice with recombinant follistatin288. This systemic administration of follistatin288 increases the follistatin levels in serum, indicating that the protein enters the circulation. The data suggest that a dose-dependent increase in body lean mass also occurs, together with an increase in muscle...

Hair Mercury Levels in Six Iranian Sub-populations for Estimation of Methylmercury Exposure: A Mini-review

Background: Mercury is widespread and persistent in the environment. One organic form of mercury, Methylmercury (MeHg), can accumulate in the food chain in aquatic ecosystems and lead to high concentrations of MeHg in fish, which, when consumed by humans, can result in an increased risk of adverse effects. Currently, the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) has established...
